Wayanad Banasura Dam is situated in Banasura hills, Wayanad district, Kerala, India. Banasura hills is part of the Western Ghats.The name Banasura is the son of the benevolent Asura king of Kerala, Mahabali alias Bali, son of Devamba and Virochana, grandson of Prahlada, in whose memory Kerala celebrates the Onam festival.

Banasura Sagar Dam is an earth dam and is the largest of such dams in India and second largest earth dam in Asia. The dam is built across the Karamanathodu tributary of Kabani river. The dam water supports Kakkayam power project and is also used for irrigation purpose. There are many islands which were developed because of submerged dam water.

Banasura Sagar Dam is situated at the foot of Banasura hills, the second largest mountains in Wayanad at a height of around 6800 feet above sea level. These hills are rich in flora and fauna.

Banasura hill resort is an earthen hill resort at the foot of the Banasura hills at 20 km distance from the Banasura Sagar Dam. Banasura hills can be reached from the Kuttiady – Mananthavady state highway. Mananthavady is at a distance of 25 kilometers from the Banasura hills. Sultan Bathery, an importtant town in Wayanad district is at 57 km distance from the hills of Banasura.
